Trip to the Tower of London to see the poppies

Photos of walk from Waterloo to the Tower of London to see poppies. We headed off early on Saturday morning, well by early - we were on the 10:15 from Alton to Waterloo, so not early early, but early for a Saturday!

One of the many bonuses of the day was that we found that there is a nice little street food market at the bottom of the steps leading to the South Bank. They had lots of lovely food on offer, but it was a bit early to eat, so we headed off down to the river - and walked along the south bank from around about the London Eye, all the way down to the Tower of  London.

We saw HMS Belfast, bit big too miss. But there was a rather strangely painted ship on the other side, that was a very interesting optical illusion. This is an art installation by the artist Tobis Rahberger, obviously my photos are much much bettter than that...

After walking across Tower Bridge, we walked around 3 sides of the Tower of London, and I took quite a few photos of the poppies that come out over the walls and down into the moat. This is also an art installation, to commemurate the 1914-18 war. Poppies have been slowly filling up the moat around the tower since the 100th anniversary of the start of the war on the 5th August 2014 , and the moat will have been filled with 888,246 poppies by the 11th November to mark the end of the war. The number marking the number of British and Commonwealth soldiers whe died in the Great War.

Very dramatic, very moving, we shall be going again in early November to take photos when the moat is flooded with the poppies. You can buy one for around £25 + p&p.

Bridget is a great fan of The Gherkin, so that explains the number of photos of it from all parts of our walk, it is up for sale, but I somehow think it is a little too expensive for us to buy!

For those who like Dr. Who, can you spot the photo where a Cyberman is hiding?
